Division Mission Statement

The mission of the Division of Education at Rust College is to assist students, through innovative teaching techniques, with acquiring the necessary competencies and professional attitudes for service careers in Elementary and Secondary Education. Secondary Education include bachelors in Biology Education, Business Education, English Education, Mathematics Education and Social Science. Other degrees include an Associates in Early Childhood Education (non-licensure), and Bachelor of Science Degrees (non-licensure) in Child Care Management and General Education. The intent is to produce graduates who will assume responsible roles as educators throughout the respective communities, the nation, and possibly the global community.

Division Overview

The Division of Education provides both licensure and non-licensure degree programs to aspiring teachers and educators. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree with licensure in Elementary and Secondary Education. Students who are looking to gain additional knowledge about education, support teaching or administrative initiatives that do not require a license, or work in other educational settings such as private/public daycare centers are welcome to take classes in our non-licensure areas. We offer a non-licensure Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education. We currently offer a non-licensure Bachelor of Science in Childcare Management and non-licensure Bachelor of Science in General Education.

Division Objectives

  • Prepare students to complete licensure requirements.
  • Develop contributing community members by providing service-learning opportunities.
  • Assist students in developing competencies in subject-matter knowledge and professional skills.
  • Instill in students a love of learning to pursue their career and professional development.
  • Encourage each student to develop a genuine concern for others and human sensitivity to the unique needs of diverse students.
  • Evaluate the program offerings by assessing examination results, achievements of graduates, student and employer opinion, and alumni review.
